Pricing and Timing:
Pricing is available on all Swoop Tables, other than that...
for existing pieces, I try to keep my pricing the same everywhere. So my prices on in-stock pieces (ie: Swoop Tables) should be the same as the same piece out in a gallery. If there seems to be a discrepancy, it's probably because they're not the same, and that is very likely since I very rarely do the exact thing twice. However, my pricing often absorbs (ignores) fluctuations in costs, which means an exotic wood that cost me more will likely be rolled out at the same price as a beautiful domestic species. I may charge a premium for an exotic species of wood, or an intense finish. Bottom line, it's not going to be far off, and I ultimately want people to admire my work on a level playing field. Based on your perceived value, you can decide if something is a bargain or not. I personally think my work is very well priced for the effort and years of dedication, but in the end, it's up to the customer looking at the piece, which likely is a very unique piece with no flaws. If you want to see more of an in-stock piece, I can provide more detail shots, not a problem.
Custom work is a totally different animal. I can work to a budget or suggest a ball park figure if desired. If there is a lot of design time required, I need to get paid for that once the design is done and the customer has the right to shop it around if they want. Design time is $40 / hour and covers the cost of any model making materials, but that has never really been a concern in the whole equation. It's about a discussion first that helps us all decide where this desire for a unique piece of furniture is going. Hopefully my online gallery here gives you the confidence that I am pretty focused and able after 35+ years of making unique pieces.
For quicker jobs that take a day or 3, I charge $60 hour plus materials, or quote an end price.
Larger projects require a 10% security deposit, then 40% for materials and initial time, 40% at mid-construction, and 10% on delivery and complete satisfaction.
As for timing, once I'm busy on a project, I'm busy. Some projects take 3 months, at which time I would be able to start designing the next project, but I would stay committed to building and delivering the current project before I start in on another. Very small jobs often get squeezed in, but larger ones get lined up in order.
