I made this piece around 1995.
It’s made of Australian Lacewood and Purlpleheart. The feet are the same 20 degree ellipse that I used on my bow front armoire, but tipped up this time. For handles, an eliptical opening in the middle of the four doors gives the fingers a nice curved cove to pull on. For the drawers, there’s a recessed groove on the sides. The top element was a satisfying design decision. It bows around the front of the curved panels and then wiffles off to the back like a fading vapour trail or a long flag on the top of a story book castle. I kept the off cut from this wiggly part and tacked it up over the door in my shop. A few years ago I learned that this sliver of purpleheart was all that remained of the whole project... it burned in a house fire. I'm glad I took these grainy pictures, it was a creative piece, well executed, but I never thought that I'd outlive one of my pieces. . |
